At Stout Training Pittsburgh we believe in three priorities for our students. These are Fitness, Focus, and Fun. Through these three principals we help children at each stage develop into the best versions of themselves. This includes life skills such as focus and confident. It also include being physically fit and learning skills applicable to all athletic endeavors. It can also include self-defense skills such as dealing with bullying, falling correctly, and being aware of dangerous situations. We believe children learn best while having fun. Children in the 4-5 yr old age group are learning so much. We enrich their learning process through games and play. Our games are specifically designed so that children learn how their bodies move and incorporate martial arts skill. They also learn to empathize with others. Children learn self-control and focus, not through command and threat but through positive re-enforcement and demonstration examples.
Our main objective for this age group is to ensure children have fun and develop a love for sport, physical activity, and martial arts that will stay with them for life. Our mat area is the safest possible environment of children to play, roll, run and start to learn movement patterns of sports and martial arts. We want kids to have fun!

Our instructors have all state child worker clearances and are true experts in Jiu Jiu Jitsu. Unlike Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, and other traditional martial hitting is not emphasized. Classes include friendly competition that is not based on a judge or teacher deciding who wins. This empowers children in a special way and creates a “can do” attitude at this critical development stage where children are starting to define their own personalities.
In these classes children can be expected to expand their learning in different directions. For example children can learn to address bully situations and protect others from these situations in a safe way. This is an especially social age and we emphasize this aspect. Another emphasis is on challenging children. We us positive methods to push children to do their best. This includes learning many effective martial arts techniques. We also instill situational awareness. The class structure is designed to teach physical skills and mental skills such as overcoming distractions, and controlling strong emotions.
